NSMQ 2024: Mfantsipim School Ousts Defending Champions PRESEC, Joins St. Augustine’s and Keta SHTS in the Grand Finale
The 2024 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) grand finale is set to be an exhilarating showdown as Mfantsipim School, St. Augustine’s College, and Keta Senior High Technical School secure their spots in the prestigious final round, edging out notable contenders along the way.
In a high-stakes match, Mfantsipim School achieved a dramatic victory over reigning champions, Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC), marking one of the most intense contests of the competition. After tying at 53 points each at the end of the final round, Mfantsipim claimed victory in a nail-biting tie-breaker, ending with a score of 56 points. This win not only ousted the eight-time champions but also shattered their hopes of defending their title. Osei Tutu Senior High, the third school in this semi-final, finished with 27 points.
Throughout the semi-final, the atmosphere was electric, as both Mfantsipim and PRESEC engaged in a neck-and-neck battle, thrilling the audience with their quick thinking and precision. With this victory, Mfantsipim has now set its sights on winning the NSMQ title, last claimed by the school in 2014.
In the earlier semi-final, Keta Senior High Technical School (Keta SHTS) demonstrated their strength and determination, defeating Koforidua SHTS and Tamale SHS. Keta SHTS finished the contest with a commendable 38 points, besting Koforidua SHTS’s 27 points and Tamale SHS’s 24 points. The team’s performance has sparked high hopes among its supporters as Keta SHTS looks to clinch their first NSMQ title.
The final spot in the grand finale was secured by St. Augustine’s College, who won the third semi-final in an intense Cape Coast face-off against Wesley Girls’ High School and Ghana National College. St. Augustine’s College ended the contest with 52 points, narrowly surpassing Ghana National’s 49 points, while Wesley Girls’ trailed with 37 points.
The journey to the NSMQ 2024 grand finale has been filled with fierce competition, with each school striving to claim the title.
