Ghana Freedom Party Presidential Candidate Akua Donkor Passes Away at Ridge Hospital

Madam Akua Donkor, the presidential candidate for the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), has passed away. A family source confirmed that she died on Monday night at Ridge Hospital in Accra, where she had been receiving treatment for respiratory complications.

Akua Donkor initially sought medical attention at Nsawam Government Hospital in the Eastern Region but was referred to Ridge Hospital in Accra due to the severity of her condition. She arrived at Ridge around 7 p.m., and by 10 p.m., she had passed on.

Just two weeks prior to her passing, Madam Akua Donkor made headlines after attending an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting in Accra. During the meeting, she expressed her dissatisfaction with what she described as persistent derogatory remarks about her qualifications as a presidential candidate, due to her lack of formal education. Despite these criticisms, she was unwavering in her resolve to represent her party in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

Madam Akua Donkor founded the Ghana Freedom Party in 2011, successfully registering it in 2012. Her journey in politics began earlier when she vied for an Assembly member position in Kwabre, Ashanti Region, though without success. In 2004, she contested as a Member of Parliament for Kwabre East, running against the late Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, but was unsuccessful in both 2004 and 2008. Undeterred, she expanded her ambitions, ultimately founding the GFP with the goal of advancing her political career on a national level.

Following her passing, Kwabena Agyeman Appiah Kubi, also known as Roman Fada and her running mate for the 2024 election, is expected to take on her role as the party’s presidential candidate.
