President Akufo-Addo Engages in Strategic Talks with Azerbaijan’s President Aliyev at COP29

Today, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo met with President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan during the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, held in Baku, Azerbaijan. The high-level discussions centered on strengthening bilateral relations and exploring opportunities for collaboration in climate action, science, education, and business.

President Aliyev welcomed President Akufo-Addo, noting the significance of Ghana’s participation in COP29 as an essential step in advancing cooperation between the two countries. He emphasized that the conference offers a vital platform to enhance global climate action and foster international partnerships.

President Akufo-Addo commended Azerbaijan’s organization of COP29, praising the event’s smooth coordination and lauding President Aliyev’s opening address at the World Leaders Climate Action Summit. He also shared his appreciation for Azerbaijani culture, expressing gratitude for the warm welcome he had received.

The two leaders discussed expanding educational exchanges and were pleased with the positive feedback from Ghanaian students currently studying in Azerbaijan. Additionally, they agreed to facilitate mutual visits by business and government delegations to explore collaboration across various sectors, reinforcing the commitment to a strengthened Ghana-Azerbaijan partnership.
