The Ministry of the Interior has announced a renewal of the curfew imposed on Bunkpurugu Township and its surrounding areas in the North East Region. The curfew, enforced through an Executive Instrument, is set to continue from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am daily, beginning Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
This decision, signed by the Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, aims to maintain peace and stability in the area. The government is urging chiefs, opinion leaders, and the youth in the community to remain calm and avoid resorting to violence amidst the current challenges. Instead, they are encouraged to focus on peaceful and constructive measures to foster harmony in the region.
As part of the ongoing security measures, a complete ban remains in effect, prohibiting the possession of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons within the township and its environs. Anyone found in violation of this directive will be subject to immediate arrest and prosecution.
The government remains committed to ensuring peace in the area and calls on all residents to cooperate with security forces to help restore stability.
This directive is effective immediately.
