Ejuratia Mourns Akua Donkor as Daughter Calls for State Burial

Residents of Ejuratia, a town in the Afigya Kwabre South District of the Ashanti Region, are in mourning following the passing of Akua Donkor, the founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP). The late politician, widely recognized for her outspoken advocacy and community development efforts, hailed from Ejuratia, where she made lasting contributions as an Assembly Member.

Since the announcement of her death, mourners from across the district have been gathering at her family home to offer condolences, sharing memories of her dedication and achievements. As the community remembers her, Akua Donkor’s contributions to local development remain a focal point, with many recalling her efforts to uplift the region.

Ama Serwaa Bonsu, the daughter of the late Akua Donkor, has joined other residents in calling for the state to honor her mother with a state burial. Bonsu praised her mother’s legacy, emphasizing Akua Donkor’s commitment to community progress and her dedication to empowering young people, especially young women.

“My mother contributed significantly to the development of Ghana and impacted many lives. Her work has touched various communities,” Bonsu shared. “I am reminded of her every time I encounter politicians because of the example she set.”

Akua Donkor’s developmental projects spanned across several communities, Bonsu noted, including the construction of an asphalt road in Ejuratia—a project made possible after her mother allocated 25 acres of family land. She also built a bus station, refurbished the local school, and supported other surrounding areas.

In Abrade, she introduced water and energy facilities and helped construct a school. At Hemang, she developed a market and a toilet facility for the police station at Mamponteng. Akua Donkor also provided seats for the Mamponteng court. “She accomplished so much for her communities. We are urging the state to honor her legacy with a state burial,” Bonsu concluded.

The residents and family members are hopeful that Akua Donkor’s contributions will be formally recognized, underscoring the lasting impact she had on her hometown and beyond.
