The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of deliberately causing disruptions in Parliament as part of a calculated strategy to win the 2024 general elections.
During a press conference on Wednesday, October 23, the NPP’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, alleged that the NDC’s actions are outlined in a document titled “Winning the 2024 Elections and Beyond: A Comprehensive NDC Strategy.” According to the NPP, the document details a plan to exploit the NDC’s near-majority in Parliament to obstruct government business, creating a legislative deadlock.
Ahiagbah asserted that this strategy has been in play since 2021, claiming that the NDC, in collaboration with Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, has been systematically frustrating the ruling government’s legislative agenda.
“This strategy the NDC has operated with since 2021 is on full display in what is happening in Parliament,” Ahiagbah stated. “For reasons known only to them, the NDC, with the support of the Speaker, is pushing a coordinated effort to seize control in Parliament and disrupt government activities.”
The NPP warned that this alleged strategy could undermine national governance and hinder key development projects, urging Ghanaians to be vigilant and not allow political maneuvering to derail the country’s progress.
Ahiagbah emphasized that the actions seen in Parliament are not isolated incidents but part of a broader scheme designed by the NDC to obstruct the government and boost their chances in the 2024 elections.
The NDC is yet to respond to these allegations, but the accusations have further intensified political tensions as the country prepares for the upcoming elections.
