Young Cashier Jailed for Stealing GHS 8,575

A 23-year-old cashier has been sentenced to three months imprisonment with hard labour by the Kaneshie District Court One for stealing GHS 8,575.00 from his employer to gamble.

The convict, Andy Tetteh, pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own plea. He admitted to using the stolen funds to place bets, but lost the entire amount.

Chief Inspector Achana Apewah, who presented the facts of the case, told the court that the complainant, Teye Simon Kwabla, is the manager of Bingo Bets, located at Ecomog in Adabraka. Tetteh, who was employed as a cashier at the betting company, also resided in Ecomog.

According to the prosecution, on April 30, 2025, Tetteh collected GHS 8,575.00 in cash from customers placing bets but failed to account for the money. The manager subsequently reported the incident to the police, leading to Tetteh’s arrest.

Investigations confirmed that the young cashier had used the money for gambling and had lost it all.
