Car Thief Sentenced to Five Years in Prison

The Amasaman Circuit Court has sentenced a 21-year-old man, Baba Hardi, to five years of imprisonment with hard labour after he pleaded guilty to stealing a car.
According to court proceedings, Hardi unlawfully entered the home of Mr. Emmanuel Gideon Debrah, an Information Technology Specialist living in Amasaman, and stole a Toyota Corolla S valued at GH¢140,000. The incident occurred in the early hours of April 8, 2025.
Police Chief Inspector Frederick Awuah-Ansah, who led the prosecution, told the court that Mr. Debrah discovered his window mesh torn and a pair of trousers containing his car keys and GH¢150 missing. He later realized that his ash-coloured Toyota Corolla S, registered GT 3044-22, had been stolen from where it was parked outside his home.
A complaint was immediately lodged with the Amasaman Police, who issued a wireless alert for the stolen vehicle. That same day, officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra apprehended Baba Hardi in possession of the car and a pair of scissors. He was reportedly attempting to sell the vehicle at the time of his arrest.
Following his arrest, Hardi was handed over to the Amasaman Police, where he admitted to the crime during questioning. He was charged and subsequently convicted based on his own plea.
Justice Enid Marful-Sau, a High Court judge sitting with additional responsibility at the Circuit Court, delivered the sentence.
