Otumfuo Credits Mediation Efforts for Relative Calm in Bawku

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has expressed cautious optimism about the current state of relative calm in Bawku, attributing the improvement to recent mediation efforts aimed at ending the protracted conflict in the area.
As the lead mediator between the warring Kusasi and Mamprusi factions, Otumfuo chaired a series of dialogue sessions from April 28 to 30. The talks have since been temporarily paused but are expected to resume as part of a broader peace initiative.
Speaking at the Manhyia Palace during a courtesy visit by the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, on Monday, the Asantehene reaffirmed his dedication to the peace process.
“We are still working on the issue and will reconvene soon to further address the concerns. Though the process is ongoing, the little we’ve done has already brought some calm to the area. We’ll provide updates to the police and the nation soon,” he stated.
Otumfuo’s active role in the negotiations has been widely praised, with many viewing his involvement as a powerful symbol of national unity and reconciliation.
