Rotational Nurses and Midwives Set to Strike Nationwide on June 2

The Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana has declared a nationwide strike beginning June 2, 2025, over the government’s failure to disburse their long-overdue allowances.

Members of the Association are reportedly owed 12 months’ worth of unpaid allowances. After issuing a 14-working-day ultimatum to demand action, the group says their appeals have been ignored by government authorities.

In an interview with Citi News, President of the Association, Ebenezer Boateng, voiced deep disappointment over the lack of response from the Ministry of Health.

“There has been no official communication from the minister, which is disheartening. It feels like we are no longer seen as relevant within the health sector or even by the public,” Boateng said.

He confirmed that unless urgent steps are taken, the strike will proceed as planned.

“We’re embarking on a nationwide strike on June 2. We don’t want any more empty promises. This issue has persisted for nearly five years. All we receive are assurances — but those are no longer enough,” he asserted.

The Association emphasized that withdrawing their services is a last resort, but necessary, given the prolonged delays in addressing their grievances. They are calling on the government to take immediate, concrete action to resolve the matter.
