Two Men Sentenced to Five Years for Stealing Immigration Officer’s Firearms

Two young men have been handed five-year prison sentences with hard labour for stealing firearms and ammunition belonging to an immigration officer in Walewale.

The convicts, 18-year-old Mustapha Basit and 22-year-old Baba Rashid, admitted guilt to charges of conspiracy to steal and stealing. Their sentencing took place on Thursday, May 22, at the Walewale Circuit Court, presided over by Justice Francis Asobayeri.

Police reports indicate that the theft occurred around noon on May 17, when the two broke into the officer’s residence in his absence. They stole a Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with ten rounds of ammunition, as well as two CZ rifle magazines, each containing 30 rounds.

Authorities are currently preparing to transfer the convicts to commence their prison terms.
