Botswana Delegation Visits Ghana to Study Successful TVET Framework and Policies

The Ministry of Higher Education of Botswana has commended Ghana’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service for its forward-thinking and impactful approach to skills development.
In pursuit of best practices, a high-level delegation from Botswana—led by Sector Minister Mr. Prince Maele and a team of education experts—is currently on a week-long visit to Ghana. The aim is to explore the key elements of Ghana’s TVET system, including its policy framework, regulatory mechanisms, institutional reforms, and strong partnerships with industry stakeholders, which have positioned the country as a leader in vocational education across Africa.
The Botswana delegation is particularly interested in Ghana’s TVET institutions, governance structures, curriculum design, gender participation and retention strategies, student employability, entrepreneurship initiatives, and funding models.
This study visit is expected to inform Botswana’s ongoing policy reforms, improve TVET governance, and enhance curriculum relevance—ultimately boosting youth employability and contributing to economic growth.
Beyond technical insights, the visit also aims to deepen bilateral relations between the two nations. Strengthening academic tourism, exchange programs, and cultural collaboration are key areas of focus, reinforcing ties that date back to the establishment of diplomatic relations on October 28, 1975.
The relationship has grown through ongoing knowledge-sharing efforts and increased calls from Botswana’s leadership to expand cooperation in education and skills development.
During a stop at Biriwa Technical Institute near Cape Coast, Mr. Maele underscored the growing importance of TVET in driving sustainable development and empowering youth across the African continent.
