One-Month Drumming and Noise-Making Ban Begins Today in Accra

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has officially begun its annual one-month ban on drumming and noise-making, effective today, May 12, and running through to June 12. This traditional exercise is an integral part of the lead-up to the Homowo Festival, a cherished cultural event of the Ga people.
According to a statement signed by Gilbert Nii Ankrah, Head of Public Affairs at the AMA, the ban is mandatory for all residents, institutions, and communities within the Assembly’s jurisdiction. It is aimed at preserving peace, ensuring spiritual solemnity, and safeguarding national security during this culturally sensitive time.
The affected areas include the AMA Head Office surroundings, Gamashie, Ablekuma West, and sections of Kasoa.
This period is regarded as sacred by the Ga community and is observed with spiritual reverence, quiet reflection, and cultural respect.
