UPSA OPENS CAMPUS POLICE STATION TO ENHANCE SECURITY

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has officially inaugurated a new police station on its campus to enhance the safety and security of students, staff, and the surrounding community.

The facility, a project initiated by the university’s alumni and led by the Global Alumni President, Francis Dadzie, was inaugurated on Tuesday. It features a range of dedicated facilities including a space management office, a CID office, exhibit room, offices for station officers and the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), separate holding cells for men and women, a cell lobby, a dedicated generator, kitchenette, and washrooms for both staff and visitors.

Construction of the police station commenced on August 1, 2023, with an initial completion date set for June 8, 2024. Despite minor delays, the project was successfully completed ahead of schedule on February 6, 2025.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, praised UPSA for its proactive approach to campus safety. He commended the partnership between the university and the Ghana Police Service, highlighting the project as a model for community-based policing and a reflection of the government’s broader commitment to public safety.

“The establishment of this police post will not only enhance operational efficiency but also strengthen community engagement,” the Minister noted.

He urged officers stationed at the facility to fully utilize the resources available and maintain active communication with the community to address security challenges. Alhaji Mohammed-Mubarak reaffirmed the government’s dedication to equipping security agencies with the tools and infrastructure necessary to carry out their duties effectively.

He also encouraged members of the university community to collaborate with the police by sharing relevant information and supporting crime prevention efforts.
